Zigong Dinosaur Museum

I had a wonderful trip today to the town of Zigong, which is about 140km south of Chengdu. This is one of the three best dinosaur museums in the world! They have discovered many new species and filled in the fossil record for middle Jurassic time. The museum is built over the fossil site and there is a huge open area in the center where you can view the excavations. Unfortunately no pictures were allowed. The first photo is of a 160 million year old delicious bass; the second is the dinosaur hall where they have some of the fossils from the excavation. What I found particularly exciting is that these are real fossils not reproductions. The third picture is of a living fossil!

    Hi Tay,
According to the guide in Zigong the largest dinosaur fossil is in Colorado. It is called supersaurus. The museum in Zigong has a cast of the left front leg which is about 7m tall.
